Luna - A love affair with Moonstone and Mother of Pearl Shell led me to design and craft this piece.
The main pendant of this necklace is carved from Mother of Pearl Shell and is set within a hand fabricated 18ct Yellow Gold Frame. The iridescent nature of the shell creates a dreamy feel, showing subtle changes of colour and tone as the necklace moves with the body.
The Moonstones themselves each have a blue sheen to them, when light shines on the stones from a certain direction. This gives each stone a dreamy appearance as the intensity of colour can change from an opaque cream, to a clear white and all the way to a striking luminous blue.
The drop shaped Moonstone at the front of the necklace also has a blue sheen. This particular stone can appear almost colourless, golden, cloudy or blue in any given light.
The back of the pendant has been decorated with cut outs from the Sterling Silver backing plate to expose the underside of the carved piece of shell. The decorative motifs are inspired by ancient gothic symbols which can be found in the decoration of Cathedrals and Victorian villas (for example) especially from the gothic revival period.
The Neckace can be worn at either 41cm long or slightly longer at 48cm.
