Steph Lusted Jewellery became well known for creating Butterfly Brooches featuring real butterfly wings encased in resin (no insects harmed in this process) and jewellery collections inspired by Anatomy or Medical Implements. The combination of precious metals, handcrafted detail and contemplative subjects, is signature to her work. Steph was born and raised in New Zealand where creating jewellery and 3d art objects became an obsession for her at an early age. Studying Visual Arts, she majored in Jewellery Design and Manufacture, graduating with 'distinction' in 1998. Unusual materials and contemporary ideas were the foundation of her unique style. The success of exhibiting her work in N.Z and Australia alongside an interest in the history and tradition of Handcraft lead her to further studies abroad. After learning the German language she undertook two years of study at the prestigious 'Goldschmiedeschule mit Uhrmacherschule' (Goldsmithing School) in Pforzheim, Germany. Graduating with a German 'Master's Certificate in Goldsmithing and Design', 2006. Based once again in New Zealand, Steph continues to create handmade pieces of jewellery from her central Wellington workshop. Steph has also been involved in the N.Z Film Industry having worked in the Props Department for two years creating pieces for 'The Hobbit - An unexpected Journey'. Collections of Steph Lusted Jewellery are held in The National Museum of New Zealand, 'Te Papa'; The Dowse Art Museum, Lower Hutt; and in various private collections. |
